Firstly this isn’t a review of the movie, just my thoughts on it.

I went to see Kung Fu Panda 3 a couple weeks ago, a couple things have been on my mind since. Now, firstly it wasn’t a bad movie, I liked the villain, the story line was alright…I guess.

The first thing I noticed is how Tigress has definitely softened up since KFP2, but I’m honestly not sure if I like it or not yet. With the addition of her new, more eye-catching outfit, I guess I expected her to have a more central role, yet she still seemed like a background character.

But then it is Kung Fu Panda, not Kung Fu Tigress

I think what’s happened is I’ve read so many Fan-Fiction stories, like Path of the Rising Sun here on DA, that are more mature and focus more on Tigress. That it’s sort of warped my view of the movies and I’ve forgotten that, at its core, Kung Fu Panda is still a kids movie.

As for the state of a possible Tigress/ Po pairing, I don’t think Dreamworks is heading in that direction, I didn’t really see any evidence of Ti/Po in the movie at all. I’d have to watch it again to be absolutely sure, I hate to say it but I think Tigress and Po are heading for the ‘just friends’ relationship. Tigress did call Po ‘A Friend’ at one point, but that’s the closest to Ti/Po the movie got.

If that’s what Dreamworks wants them to just be friends, fine, but they should include another tiger for Tigress then.

All in all, I don’t think it was a bad movie, but I’ve read Fan-Fictions that are better, more mature, focus more on my favorite character (Tigress). I’ll still buy it on DVD when it comes out (If only for the Directors commentary) but as of now, KFP2 is still my favorite of the three.

Those are my thoughts on KFP3, it took me awhile to come to these conclusions and they are of course, subject to change if I learn anything new.
